Search engine optimization techniques used to increase your website rankings are sometimes overlooked by webmasters, as it can seem too complex. Having a high search engine ranking for your website is so essential to your business that it should be taken seriously if you want to succeed in your business.
At least 85% of people looking for goods and services on the Internet find websites through search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Customers will be more likely to make a purchase if your website is optimized for specific keywords that the user is searching for that are related to your website. If your website is ranked higher in the search engine results, as a result, you will receive more traffic and more customers. This is what search engine optimization is based upon. There is a lot of information online about search engine optimization, and it can be quite daunting to try and understand it. Or, you can change a few factors to your website, which can help to improve your search engine rankings. One of the first things you should look at is the title of your web page at the top of your online browser.
The title bar is featured at the top left hand corner of your internet browser. Look at the words that appear there when you access your home page. It is important to have your company or main keyword phrases in the title bar to increase search engine rankings.
Then click on all your links and examine the title bars on the pages you access. All the title bar’s for every page should contain the most relevant phrases and keywords for that page. Avoid having lots of different keywords in the title bar, keeping it to six words or less. Don’t include repeated words in your title bar, and if so, try to avoid having the same words next to each other.
The next variable your should take into consideration is the quality, and the originality of the content on your web site. The text on your pages must contain the most important keywords, and the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site. You should try and have anywhere from 100 – 250 words on each page. Having good ranking in search engines is to some degree, selected on the text of each page. The search engines must be able to read the text in HTML format, and not graphics.
To find out if your text is in HTML format, take your cursor and try to highlight a word or two. If you are able to do this, the text is HTML. The text is probably in graphic form if you can not highlight each individual word. In this case, ask your webmaster to change the text into HTML format in order to increase your search engine rankings.
You then should take a look at your meta tags. The truth is, meta tags don’t really have that much of an effect on your overall rankings. Although, it’s worth adding them in the event that a search engine will use meta tags in their ranking formula.
To see if your meta tags are set up properly, click the “view” button on your web browser, and select “source”. This willpull up a window revealing the underlying code that created the page. If there are meta tags, they usually appear near the top of the window. You should see meta name=”keywords” content=. If you do not have this code, contact your webmaster and have them put it into your website.
Link popularity is last. This is the most important part of search engine rankings. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites that have linked to you. This increases search engine rankings, and helps to drive quality traffic to your website.
A successful internet marketing campaign should consist of search engine optimization. Remember, the higher your search engine ranking, the more quality customers will be directed your way.
